Annual Tourism Week was founded by Mr Sthandiwe Mkhize in the year 2020. This was after Covid 19 had decimated the Tourism Industry. Given his intense consulting work in the tourism industry Sthandiwe launched a programme that will be at the forefront of the rapidly changing landscape and tackling main issues and providing necessary interventions in partnership with various stakeholders.

Sthandiwe’s career spans over two decades. He started working as a tourism official at the KwaZulu Natal provincial tourism authority, in the Information, research and transformation units respectively. He currently leads a group that has its majority interests in the tourism sector.

Over his unassuming entrepreneurial journey, Sthandiwe has formed a part of several board and councils, being entrusted with critical work of Corporate Governance. This he continues to remark is “exceptionally challenging as boards in developing nations facing incredibly challenging environments”.

In 2022 Sthandiwe, together with key stakeholders aim to launch the Centre for Tourism Entrepreneurship. Annual Tourism Week will be run under the CTE banner from year 2022. CTE is already calling for young business owners with an interest in the tourism industry to begin registering their names for membership.
